My Story – Holly

Holly
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Hi There

I am Holly and I have lived with my friends Lindsey and Amanda in Supported Living for a few years now.  I don’t go to a day centre but I enjoy going out with my support workers and I have a part time job at a Community café which I love.  I take orders from people and I love chatting to our customers.

I have also been doing my Duke of Edinburgh award for a while and I passed this year and will soon be getting my award and I am excited about that.

I have been a member at Doncaster Mencap since I went into Supported Living and now, I am also a volunteer at our Gateway club and a Gateway rep on the Mencap committee.

I like being a volunteer and meeting up with other volunteers and members and having a joke with them. I like to help everyone whenever I can.

Like Jordan I love dancing and joining in with all the activities.

I ask members what they would like to do at our Gateway club and at the committee meetings I help to decide on trips out and suggest new things for us to do.

In July 2024 I went up to Edinburgh on the train with one of my support workers to get my Duke of Edinburgh award and the Duke of Edinburgh talked to us all and said how well we had done.  We had a lovely time!!
